66% Grenache | 24% Shiraz |10% Mourvèdre | Basket Pressed
The 2022 GSM is estate grown fruit from the families Moppa Hill and Greenock vineyards. 66% Grenache is soured from the old vines at Moppa, 24% Shiraz from our Home Block at Greenock and 10% Mourvèdre from our hillside vineyard at Moppa. Each variety adds its own characteristics to the blend – Grenache aromatic red fruits and spice, Shiraz dark fruits and mid palate weight. Mourvèdre completes the balance by adding structure and complexity to the finish.
Fruit was handpicked, Grenache 7th of April, Shiraz 20th of March and Mourvedre 3rd of May 2022. 100% de-stemmed this vintage and whole berry to fermenters. The three grape components all fermented separately, in small open top fermenters with two punch downs per day. Time on skins, 29 days for the Grenache, 15 days for the Shiraz and the Mourvedre. After fermentation the wine was then drained to oak barrels and skins were hand dug out of the fermenters into the basket press.
Show Tasting NotesAppearance: Medium ruby core with bright crimson rim.
Aroma: Wild cherry and raspberry fight for attention with earth aromas. Although the fragrant primary fruits are evident, there is also plenty of underlying mixed spice. There are also truffle notes synonymous with the Grenache fruit from Moppa along with some florals and hints of pepper.
Palate: Medium bodied. Plenty of fruit and spice flow onto the silky palate, along with those classic earthy flavours. Superb drinkability now, soft palate and acidity, the tannins are velvety and help to support the fruit and acid on the finish.
