Old Vine Semillon 2022
Single Vineyard | Old Vines | Barrel Aged | Basket Pressed
Semillon is well suited to Barossa Valley’s warm, mediterranean type climate. This wine was produced from the families old vine Semillon vineyard planted just off the bank of the Greenock Creek in 1963. This small 3 acre vineyard is planted in sandy loam over deep red clay. It is pruned by hand with the traditional rod and spur method. 2022 was a slightly cooler vintage and combined with picking earlier has resulted in lover alcohol and good natural acidity.
The old vine block was handpicked on 23rd of February by Ian, Carol and team. Once harvested the grapes were partial (28%) whole bunch pressed to French oak puncheons for fermentation. The wine was allowed to mature for 9 months in oak before being transferred to a stainless steel vessel in readiness for bottling.
Show Tasting Notes
Appearance: Light Straw in colour with a green tinge.
Aroma: Earlier picking has driven the citrus, mainly lemon and grapefruit along with orange blossom and white flowers. There are also threads of vanilla and nutmeg spice from the oak.
Palate: A purity of citrus fruit with a tight mineral acidity flow beautifully through the seamless, slightly creamy textural palate. The wine will continue to grow in intensity and build layers of complexity as the wine ages.
