Moppa Hill Shiraz 2014
Hand Picked | Basket Pressed | Single Vineyard
In 1893, the Moppa district witnessed a mini gold rush, which saw many mine shafts dug into Moppa Hill. A reported 530 ounces of gold was mined from the area.
Moppa Hill is one of laughing Jack’s most prized vineyard sites and is already well known for its Old Vine Grenache and Moppa Block Shiraz (Block 4). The 2014 Moppa Hill Shiraz is the third release and is sourced from a single vineyard known as Block 6 on the eastern slope of the Moppa Hill property. It is a very low yielding vineyard and produces wine with distinctive aromas and complexity.
This 6 acre vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture methods and a great emphasis is placed on natural biodiversity within the vineyard. The grapes were handpicked, 100% de-stemmed and 60% berries crushed, 40% whole berries were placed into small open top fermenters. Fermentation was conducted over 14 days with the cap being hand plunged twice a day with a rack and return.
