Moppa Hill Shiraz 2012
Hand Picked | Basket Pressed
Moppa Hill is one of laughing Jack’s most prized vineyard sites and is already well known for its Old Vine Grenache and Moppa Block Shiraz (Block 4). 2012 Moppa Hill Shiraz is an inaugural release and is sourced from Block 6 on the Moppa Hill property.
Block 6 is situated below Block 4 and therefore located lower on the eastern slope between 353m to 365m above sea level. This 6 acre vineyard is hand pruned, handpicked and managed using sustainable viticulture methods. This site has classic Moppa sandy soil with plenty of iron stone fragments. It is a very low yielding vineyard helping to create wine with purity of fruit a silky texture and layers of complexity.
In 1893, the Moppa district witnessed a mini gold rush, which saw many mine shafts dug into Moppa Hill. A reported 530 ounces of gold was mined from the area. Although the mine shafts are now long gone the property is still worth its weight in gold to Shawn and his family.
