Moppa Block Shiraz 2008
Hand Picked | Basket Pressed | 96 pts by James Halliday
Moppa Block Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard on the eastern slopes of Moppa Hill, located in the Barossa Valley.
This vineyard has an altitude of almost 400m which makes it the highest vineyard on the western side of the Barossa and results in cooler temperatures. Its terroir consists of red/brown earth over rich friable red clay, along with fragments of ironstone.
The cooler temperatures and rich clay soils help to produce a vibrant aromatic wine with superb concentration and structure.
Show Tasting Notes
Appearance: Incredible black core almost right to the rim.
Aroma: Dark and mysterious almost over powering density of Christmas cake, vanilla, prunes, aniseed and treacle.
Palate: Sheer intensity of bitter dark chocolate, liquorice, Christmas cake, prunes and vanilla. A steely structure with an acid over 7 but the massive concentration conceals and gives balance and harmony. Bold grainy tannins give an incredible long lasting finish.
