Moppa Block Shiraz is sourced from Block 4, a 4 acre single vineyard on the eastern slopes of Moppa Hill, located in the Barossa Valley. This vineyard has an altitude of almost 400m which makes it the highest vineyard on the western side of the Barossa, a somewhat cooler site in a warmer region. Block 4 is the favoured vineyard on the Moppa Hill property that produces the finest wine for its intensity and purity of fruit, firmness of tannins and most natural acidity.
The grapes were hand picked on the 20th of March. Winemaking was conducted with traditional Laughing Jack methods: de-stemmed, fully crushed berries and open top fermentation. In addition a 5 day cold soak at 8 degrees was conducted to stabilize colour and pristine flavours. Fermentation, maceration on skins followed for a further 18 days to build complexity and integrate the naturally occurring solid tannins for long term cellaring.

Appearance: Inky, glossy, impenetrable dark core.
Aroma: Captivating aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, lavender, cedar and fruit cake together with a distinctive array of concentrated black fuits that is synonymous with this vineyard. A light peppering of spice and violets are also present alongside a hint of anise and liquorice.
Palate: Full bodied and concentrated. A serious wine with a complexity of black fruits, bitter dark chocolate, black olives and mixed spices. Power and elegance runs beautifully through this wine with a firm structure, balanced acidity and natural integrated tannins that linger on the finish.
