Limited Two Shiraz is a selection of the finest ‘Two Barrels’ producing a mere 800 bottles. The 2018 Limited Two Shiraz is the 5th bottling in 24 years; it sits alongside the 2004, 2008, 2010 & 2016.  The fruit was handpicked from a low yielding, dry grown, hillside vineyard with an altitude of 335m.  The red/brown earth is rich in ironstone over calcareous friable deep red clay.  It is located on our original 1855 founded property in the Greenock hills, Barossa Valley.

The grapes were handpicked on the 2nd of March, 100% de-stemmed and fully crushed berries transferred into a small 3 tonne open top fermenter.  Fermentation and extended maceration of the skins were carried out over 17 days.  The ferment was hand plunged 3 times per day with an occasional rack and return.  After fermentation the wine was then drained to oak barrels and skins were hand dug out of the fermenter into the basket press.  The wine is matured with minimal racking until being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Show Tasting Notes

Appearance:  Impenetrable black core with a fine crimson-red rim.

Aroma:  Distinctive lavish perfumed fruits; blackberry, plums, black cherries and touch of blueberries and a faint hint of raspberry.  The new oak component giving lift and some obvious allspice; cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and pepper aromas to the nose.  Subtle hints of chocolate now but will become more evident as the wine ages along with some savoury leather notes.

Palate:  Medium to full bodied Shiraz from an outstanding vintage with impeccable balance.  Layers of mostly dark fruits including blackberry, plum, cherry and blackcurrant.  After the explosion of berries sits the molten chocolate and liquorice, along with some creamy spiced oak flavours.  The tightest grain French oak has integrated seamlessly with the dense fruit and natural fine grain tannins.
