Jack’s Shiraz 2014
Open Top Fermented | Basket Pressed
2014 Jack’s Shiraz was sourced from the family’s Greenock estate Home Block & Hill Block vineyards. Harvest commenced on the 23rd February, in total there were 10 small batches of wine made over 8 weeks that make up the 2014 Jack’s Shiraz.
The grapes were de-stemmed and 80% berries crushed while 20% whole berries remained before being transferred into open top fermenters. Fermenation was kept on the cooler side and juice pumped over the skins twice a day for 10 to 14 days. After fermentation the wine was then drained to oak barrels and skins were hand shovelled out of the fermenters into the basket press. The pressings from the basket press are never overextracted, although they may lack the fruit intensity of the free run, the pressings blended back in add tannins for structure.
Show Tasting Notes
Appearance: Dark core with a crimson rim.
Aroma: Red and black fruits combine in the 2014 Jack’s Shiraz (it’s usually dominated by black fruits). Youthful cherry, blueberry and red currents are predominently present with hints of violets, sage and fennel.
Palate: Medium bodied with powerful primary fruits upon opening. The 2014 is approachable and well-structured with a supple mid palate. Overall plum and cherry flavours combine with cooler climate characters of mixed herbs, good acidity and chalky dry tannins.
