Estate Grown | Estate Made | Creek Block Vineyard
Semillon is well suited to Barossa Valley’s Mediterranean type climate. The Semillon was produced from our Creek Block vineyard planted in 1994 by Ian & Nathan Kalleske. During the growing season months of spring, we received above average rainfall of just over 300mm. This set up for healthy canopies and good yields. A warm/dry January and February with favourable moisture conditions in the subsoil allowed for grapes to be picked slightly riper with softer acidity.
The Creek Block was machine harvested in the early hours on the 17th of March, compared with harvesting on the 4th of February for the previous 2021 vintage. Once harvested the grapes were whole bunch pressed to a stainless steel vessel for fermentation. The vessel was kept at 14 degrees for 17 days to complete fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was kept on light lees for a further 6 months prior to bottling.
Show Tasting NotesAppearance: Pale straw in colour with a green tinge.
Aroma: Flavour ripeness has pushed the tropical fruit, mainly pineapple along with melon, apple, pear and papaya. There are threads of herbaceous notes and a lovely camomile, floral lift to finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, rich round mouthfeel and intense varietal flavour. Plenty of citrus, pome fruits and papaya drive the palate with medium acidity for a softer finish.
