Greenock Shiraz 2013
Estate Grown | Hand Picked | Basket Pressed
The 2013 Greenock Shiraz was sourced from three family vineyards grown on the Kalleske’s Greenock property, affectionately known as East Block, Hill Block and Home Block. This hard working family have been toiling this soil for 6 generations, since 1855.
Only the finest fruit from the 3 blocks were hand selected for the 2013 Greenock Shiraz, not since 2002 has the Hill Block made up the majority of the blend. The grapes were handpicked, de-stemmed and 100% crushed berries were then placed into small open top fermenters. Fermentation and maceration on skins were conducted over 21 days with the cap being hand plunged twice per day with a rack and return. After fermentation the wine (free run) was drained to barrel and the skins basket pressed.
Show Tasting Notes
Appearance: Impenetrable dark core with a beautiful crimson rim.
Aroma: A perfumed array of ripe dark plum, blackberry and mulberry dominate the nose. The 2013 growing season was dry and hot, this will influence black pepper nuances along with liquorice and spice.
Palate: A low yielding hot vintage giving plenty of depth, power and concentration. The balance is superb with mild acidity and ripe tannins giving way to drinkability now but will certainly benefit from a few years in the cellar.
