70% Grenache | 20% Shiraz | 10% Mourvèdre | Basket Pressed
The 2024 GSM is estate grown fruit from our Moppa Hill and Greenock vineyards. Grenache is soured from the old vines at Moppa, Shiraz from our Home Block at Greenock and Mourvèdre from our hillside vineyard at Moppa. Each variety adds its own characteristics to the blend – Grenache aromatic red fruits and spice, Shiraz dark fruits and mid palate weight. Mourvèdre completes the balance by adding structure and complexity to the finish.
Handpicked fruit, Grenache 25th of March, Shiraz 14th of March and Mourvèdre 16th March. 100% de-stemmed this vintage and whole berry to fermenters. The three grape components all fermented separately, in small open top fermenters with two punch downs per day. Time on skins, 14 days for the Grenache, 20 days for the Shiraz and 8 days for the Mourvèdre. After fermentation the wine was then drained to oak barrels and skins were hand dug out of the fermenters into the basket press.
Appearance: Medium ruby core with bright crimson rim.
Aroma: Wild cherry, blueberry and raspberry along with earthy aromas dominate. While the fragrant primary fruits remain vibrant and expressive, there is a generous thread of underlying mixed spice adding depth and intrigue. Subtle truffle notes — characteristic of the Grenache fruit from Moppa — bring savoury complexity, complemented by delicate florals, predominantly violet, and a gentle hint of pepper to finish.
Palate: Medium-bodied, with an abundance of fruit and spice flowing seamlessly across a silky palate, underpinned by classic earthy nuances. It offers superb drinkability in its youth, with a supple texture and well-integrated acidity. The tannins are velvety and finely balanced, providing gentle structure and support to the generous, lingering fruit on the finish.
