We’ve been anticipating the day that we can finally release our Inaugural Moppa Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. After receiving 95 points in the Halliday Wine Companion we just couldn’t be happier with this wine!
2017 Moppa Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is on its way!
“One does not always associate Barossan turf with cabernet and yet there are old vines of immense calibre. Dried sage and a herbal potpourri clad the sinewy tannins as they meander about the mouth, conferring poise while propelling red and black currant, olive and anise notes, to a long finish. This is a very good wine.” – Ned Goodwin – Halliday Wine Companion
Lets be clear here our Cabernet vines are not old, you can confirm that by visiting our special post in this Family Ever After Blog. Quite the opposite in fact but perhaps the old cabernet vines that Ned is referring to are in fact the famous vines of Penfolds Block 42 which are just metres up the road. Needless to say our vineyards are in great company, this wine is a cracking wine and we can’t wait to release it to you later in the year!
2016 Moppa Block Shiraz maintains its 96 points!
“A palate-staining, brooding wine of immense potential, this carpacious shiraz was basket-pressed to abundant oak, transferring a riff of coffee grind, a whiff of vanilla and ample bitter chocolate to smoked meat barrel ferment aromas. Dark bitter cherry, raspberry and damson plum, lifted by a reductive clench of violet and an earthen note of ground spice, from a varietal signpost of pepper, to clove, cardamon and Chinese five-spice. Far from OTT, this has thrust of glycerol and parry of freshness across the back-end.” – Ned Goodwin – Halliday Wine Companion
Following the release of the Mini Mag, Winemaker Shawn Kalleske, took part in an exclusive Halliday Sip Series tasting event in Melbourne. There he had on the pour the “awarded and yet to be released” 2016 Moppa Block Shiraz alongside the 96 point back vintages of 2010 & the inaugural 2008.
The 2016 Moppa Block Shiraz (now renamed the Carl Albert Moppa Block Shiraz paying homage to our Grandfather) will be released to our mailing list members in August directly following our annual Steak & Shiraz dinner.
Details on the Steak & Shiraz dinner are yet to be released!
